Markus Kohlprath
Composer and Guitarist
Markus is a composer, musician and teacher born in Vienna/Austria and living in Würzburg/Germany. After learning and playing in his teens jazz/funk guitar in the streets and clubs of vienna he studied with the late, great Harry Pepl jazz guitar and also classical composition with Prof. Dobrovolsky at the university of Graz/Austria. He played and worked with some of Europes finest Jazz Players as there are Manfred Bründl, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Peter Herbert, Renato Chicco, Heinrich Kalnein, Klaus Bru, Christian Hassenstein, Andy Schreiber, Herbert Stengele and many others. With his Jazztrio which features the young wizards Friedrich Betz- Bass and Dominik Raab- Drums he made the CD "Trio Orphée" which showcases his guitar playing and improvising and can also be purchased on this website. Turning away from pursuing a promising career as a jazz player he concentrated on studying classical composition and playing classical guitar. After composing, arranging and performing film music for various film and TV projects, the ambient music label "Santec Music" and many others in a lot of different genres he now concentrates on his own project "The Singing Universe" which reflects his lifelong love and interest for nature and the network of life forms on our planet and where his experience in all the different musical genres culminates in a vital, colorful neo-classical style with a strong sense for melody, moving harmonies and rhythms.
"THE SINGING UNIVERSE" came out of an idea of composer/musician Markus Kohlprath who had the desire to bring together his two passions music/film and nature/biology. Together with a growing team of filmmakers, engineers and musicians of all ages who like and support the aesthetic concept the content is created and new projects are constantly developed.
Love, respect and care for nature and solidarity with all life forms and sharing it with the audience is the basic concept of our activities. In order to preserve as much as possible from the natural life of our planet which in a good portion is about to be destroyed nowadays we believe that showing and creating awareness of the beauty and wonders of the natural world and its strong impact it has on our mood and mental health is a good way to bring people to take more care in their attitude and their actions. This doesn't have to be dull but can be very entertaining and exiting.
There is already a big movement of mostly young people all over the planet that feel the urgent need to take action on how economy and technology is developing. Away from a ripping, destructive and strictly profit oriented path to more environment friendliness and sustainability. We as artists in the entertaining industry can be part of that movement by choosing relevant themes and bringing awareness for the topic instead of creating constant distraction and escape in an artificial dream world.
